Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your health care will cost. Under federal law, health care providers must give patients who do not have certain types of health coverage, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of expected charges before services are provided.
Your rights include:
-
The right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of services upon request or at the time of scheduling.
-
If you schedule a service at least 3 business days in advance, you will receive your estimate within 1 business day.
-
If you schedule a service at least 10 business days in advance, you will receive your estimate within 3 business days.
-
You can request a Good Faith Estimate at any time, even before scheduling.
-
If you receive a bill that is $400 or more above your estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.
What to do:
Save a copy or photo of your Good Faith Estimate and all related bills.
For more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers or call 1-800-985-3059.
